GS Battery chose Nuvation’s Low-Voltage System Assembly and Stack Switchgear (SSG) for their energy storage solution (ESS) installed in Bright Power’s solar photovoltaic (PV) system. The PV system was installed at Via Verde, a residential development located in the Bronx, NY.
New York suffered from severe power outages when the area was affected by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Jonathan Rose Companies and Phipps Houses, the developers of Via Verde, had the goal to build affordable housing that provided reliable energy to a community that was harshly impacted by the hurricane. They built a 300,000 square foot urban infill, which included Bright Power’s 66 kW building-integrated PV system. The solar system provides affordable energy to residents, cutting electricity costs by $13,000 annually.
Nuvation’s integrated battery management solution was obligatory for GS Battery’s energy storage to pass the UL1973 certification, which is a requirement for all energy storage systems in New York City. The BMS protects the batteries from overcharging and overdischarging, and provides thermal management. GS Battery doubled their battery warranty from five to ten years for customers who allow their batteries to be managed by Nuvation Energy's battery management system.
